I became friends with Jean after Denis died and was immensely grateful for her kind generosity when she gave me Denis's car when I needed to change mine, refusing to take anything for it. We got to know each other better as I took her to various appointments, etc. We took my dog Bertie to Ashridge where we often had lunch together and I greatly enjoyed her company and her lovely sense of humour. I am very sad that in her final months her illness and my increasing loss of mobility prevented us from seeing each other.
